Write at the Stanley: A Generative Writing Workshop
Join us monthly to generate new creative writing inspired by works in the Stanley collection. Each session will be led by a different talented writer from our area, who will be offering a new prompt and a new approach to ekphrastic writing (writing inspired by visual art). Bring your own notebook and pencil or computer and leave with the beginning of a newly written piece.
Co-sponsored by Iowa City Poetry. Teen and adult writers in all genres are welcome.

Drawing Salon with Robert Caputo
The Drawing Salon focuses on drawing artworks from the museum's collection. Each session will focus on a different artwork. The sessions will begin with an introduction and discussion of the selected work. Participants will be encouraged to pursue their own visions and to take inspiration from the artworks in the gallery.
Pencils and sketchbooks/paper are the only artmaking materials allowed in the galleries. The museum has golf pencils with erasers and clipboards for participants to use. Stools...
Performance | Interwoven Worlds: A Dance Journey Between Three Cities in Iowa
At the Stanley Museum of Art, this performance brings Elizabeth Catlett’s artwork Which Way? to life through an original dance work, the second of a three part movement.

Feeling stressed at the end of the semester? Join us for an extended Crafternoon, featuring a guided Chill & Create activity.
We invite you to take a creative relaxation break at the Stanley Museum of Art with Chill & Create, a workshop led by Dana Keeton, a local artist and art therapist. Attendees will have the opportunity to work with a variety of materials to create a stick weaving focused on personal strengths. The workshop will include strategies for calming and focusing.

No experience required! Light snacks provided. Stay for five minutes or hang out for a while, it's up to you.

Film Screening at FilmScene with Director Khalik Allah
The Stanley presents a Pay What You Can screening of experimental documentary work by New York-based filmmaker Khalik Allah, in collaboration with FilmScene. The double feature screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director who will be in Iowa City for the Iowa City International Film Festival (ICDOCS).
